Godspell
October 26th and 27th 2021, South Hill Park
Artemis College Summer Program presents Godspell!
Welcome to our show! This production was first rehearsed in August 2021, but four days before the first show - several members of the cast got Covid and we had to postpone.
Members of tonights performance have come back together in their half term holiday to finish what they started! The show has been reworked over a day and a half of rehearsals to adapt to a new more intimate setting. Originally planned for the amphitheatre at South Hill Park, we are now in the Coach House, which our wonderful technical crew have transformed into a performance space.
We are incredibly proud of this cast, their energy and enthusiasm, and commitment to each other as well as the show. With our original director and choreographer on other jobs, two Artemis graduates (Keir Buist, playing Jesus) and Amber Weston (now a degree student at Urdang in London) have stepped in to re work the show with the cast. Additional support came from Artemis College second year Bella Collett, who has contributed more choreography and undertaken teaching their peers.
The atmosphere in the rehearsal room has been so positive, with excitement to finally present Godspell to an audience, we hope you enjoy the show!
The show running time is 60 minutes, without an interval. Bathrooms are just outside next to the atrium restaurant.
Filming is not permitted by licence, but you are welcome to take pictures (without a flash).
Godspell
Presented by Artemis College, featuring a community cast of 21 fantastic young actors aged 13-18. Led by the international hit, "Day by Day," Godspell (2012 Broadway version) features a parade of beloved songs, including "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All for the Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side.”
A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.
Boasting a score with chart topping songs, a book by a visionary playwright (John-Michael Tebelak) and a feature film, Godspell is a sensation that continues to touch audiences.
Exhilarated by a return to the autumn stage - the cast will charm, delight and entertain you in the beautiful woodland amphitheatre setting.
Conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak / Music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, produced on license from Concord Theatricals.
